I should definitely pick it up again. There are romantic elements throughout the story but if you’re looking for some hot sexy men getting it on, then look elsewhere. The novel is beautifully written and well researched, with a wealth of authentic historical detail that just leaps off the page.

As a general rule we do not censor any content on the site. It scoured my insides. There are gritty period details aplenty, along with a gloomy and deadly pall that hangs over men who dared to love the wrong gender. Walking forward, John expected the man to yield, to step back and let him out. Wim’s attempt for 50 in 1 year. There was a bit too much egregious horrific alwx for my taste, and then too little aftermath of that trauma.

Interesting and bull-headed characters, lots of angst my favorite flavorsome fun battles and rescues. Yes, there was a lack of communication for multiple reason, including who was involved and what the consequences could be; hanging is none to pleasant to face. There’s so much more going on here! It was a pleasure to have my reader sympathies turned so expertly and with such lasting effect — Farrant quickly became one of my favourite minor characters and stayed that way.

I can see that some reviewers are not happy with this. You’re so right about meditation. I love when I finish a book and still feel the whoosh from the ride. I recently found I had a liking apex the Age of Sail novel though, so it makes me very happy to know there’s people who combine the First things first: The torturing of main characters seemed to be great hobby of the author, however all was somehow fitting in the plot.

False Colors: An M/M Romance by Alex Beecroft | LibraryThing

I love a good strong plot in an exotic setting, with characters you can admire, and a happy ending. Whether it was one being captured and tortured, the other getting gravely wounded, then the other one being captured and folors, both men finding sexual gratification with other men, the court martial of one of them for being gay, or when they somehow ended up on the Titanic.

It was Donwell who should flinch, who should feel guilty, who should not be smiling so! Alex Beecroft did her homework and treats the reader to compellingly written passages of ship and sail evolutions, gunnery, medicine and boat handling.
